The City of Refuge - Bishop Noel Jones

Bishop Noel Jones

For nearly 40 years, Bishop Noel Jones has challenged us through his messages. A theologian and scholar who has been labeled “eclectic, a maverick, and a preacher’s preacher,” he is revered for compelling us to think beyond myopic views of God and spirituality. A product of the rigid educational and religious system of Jamaica, West Indies, he was told that one did not question authority, especially the power of God; he aspired to understand why. ...

Subsequently, he began a lifelong pursuit of biblical comprehension.

His first pastorate was at Bethel Temple of Longview in Longview, Texas, where he served for almost 20 years. In 1994, he relocated to Los Angeles, California, succeeding the venerable Bishop Robert W. McMurray as pastor of The City of Refuge (formerly known as Greater Bethany Community Church). Today, The City of Refuge has 20,000 congregants, with an array of integrated programs.

Bishop Jones received a bachelor of science degree from Aenon Bible College in Columbus, Ohio. He is the father of three children: Noel (Cozzette), Eric (Angela), and Tifani (Bavu). And, grandfather to a host of grandchildren. Explore more about Bishop Jones via www.cityofrefugela.org.
